A man has been arrested and charged with five counts of serious criminal trespass after a three-hour long manhunt during yesterday’s extreme heat.
About 2.45pm yesterday (Saturday 29 December) Western District patrols were called to a home on Railway Terrace at Osborne after the occupant reported a man trying to break in.
Police were on scene quickly however the suspect had fled the scene prior to their arrival. The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect and CCTV footage was obtained by neighbouring premises.
Following investigations police will allege the suspect attempted to break into two other houses in the street.
About an hour later police were called to Angas Street at Alberton where the occupants of a home reported a man had attempted to break in and the victim was chasing the suspect down the street.
Patrols attended and were advised by residents the man was last seen running through backyards of properties on Fussell Place. Cordons were put in place and with the assistance of Dog Operations Unit and Public Transport Policing Teams, and after more than 1.5 hours of remaining on the cordon, the suspect was located inside an unoccupied home in an attempt to hide from police.
The man again tried to run and he was subsequently arrested and charged with five counts of serious criminal trespass, two counts of theft, being unlawfully on premise and resisting police. The 44-year-old man from Brooklyn Park was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 31 December.
