Hollywood Private Hospital has been cleared to start work on a new $67 million emergency department, which will be the first in Perth north of the Swan River.
The city’s only other private emergency clinic is at St John of God Murdoch Hospital.
Construction is due to start in March 2020 and be completed in late 2021.
“This is a unique facility for people who live north of the river as it provides them with the option of immediate access to private emergency care,” Hollywood Private Hospital CEO Peter Mott said.
The 14-bed facility will feature a resuscitation room, plaster/treatment room, consultation spaces and three 30-bed wards to accommodate emergency patient admissions.
“This will be Ramsay Health Care’s 11th emergency department nationally, so we are an experienced operator in this area,” Mr Mott said.
“As a private ED, we anticipate patients experiencing cardiac symptoms, who have sustained a sports or surgical injury, and the elderly with medical conditions will account for the majority of ED presentations,” he added.
The new clinic is expected to create more than 100 jobs for nurses, allied health staff and doctors.
“We are looking forward to working with the general practitioner community in our area to provide them with information and support in relation to the new ED,” Mr Mott said.
The project is part of a $200 million, five-year development at the Nedlands site, which includes doubling the number of operating suites to 20 and adding more than 100 inpatient beds.
The new Hollywood Consulting Centre – featuring endoscopy suites, 37 consulting rooms and a 280-bay multi-storey car park – is due for completion in March 2020.
The centre will also have a new gastroenterology unit with four procedure rooms and a discharge area modelled on an airport lounge, where patients can complete their recovery post-procedure in private pods.
Its two radiation bunkers for cancer treatment will be operational in July 2020, along with a new 31-bed mental health unit.
