A unique piece of Australian motorsport history is coming on the market.
SYDNEY, NSW, SEPTEMBER 2019: GraysOnline is auctioning the very first vehicle a young rookie named Peter Brock drove around Mount Panorama in the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500. Brock teamed up with Des West for the race and powered this 1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 to third place at the famous mountain circuit.
Not only was this the beginning of what would be one of the most celebrated racing careers in Australian motorsport, but this was one of the first Holden Dealer Team (HDT) vehicles ever built.
This Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 heralded a new era in racing, launching the career of Peter Perfect, as well as establishing HDT as a dominant force in motorsport. This unique vehicle is being offered for sale by GraysOnline, with the online auction commencing at 4.30pm on September 20, 2019 and closing at 8.35pm on September 25, 2019.
Chris Corbin, CEO at GraysOnline said “This car is a genuine piece of Australian auto sports classic memorabilia. We expect a lot of interest from collectors and motorsport enthusiasts alike.”
This Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 was one of three vehicles commissioned by HDT for the 1969 Bathurst race – one of the others went on to take the chequered flag that year. Under the racing regulations of that era, race cars had to have full trim and be registered for road use. “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” was the turn of phrase that best described race cars of that time.
Lovingly and carefully restored from the wheels up and with full racing livery from the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500, this vehicle can be viewed at GraysOnline, 894-906 Taylors Road, Dandenong South, Victoria from September 23 to 25, 2019 (9am-4pm). Contact GraysOnline on 1300 CLASSIC (1300 252 7742).
After a full ‘nut and bolt’ restoration in the mid 2000s, this vehicle was unveiled at the 2007 Muscle Car Masters and has since been on display at the Peter Brock Experience on the Gold Coast. Full documentation, including CAMS log book, will be included in the vehicle sale.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a genuine piece of Australian motorsport history. This car gave a young Peter Brock his first drive at Mount Panorama, propelling him to unprecedented success in years to come as King of the Mountain, and cementing his place as a legend of Australian motorsport.
