Toowoomba Art Society member Peter Fitzpatrick has literally gone out on a limb for a retrospective exhibition that is on display at the Crows Nest Gallery from April 3 to 28, 2024.
Out on a Limb is a playful reference to the phrase, to go out on a limb, which embodies Peter’s ethos of trying something new even if it goes against the grain.
“For art to hang on a wall it ought to evoke conversation, play ‘mind games’, arouse changes and not sit meekly as a ‘gap fill-in’ of inconsequence,” Peter said.
This curated selection of retrospective paintings and mixed media works from the past 10 years features limbs, trees, branches and figurative forms, where limbs are viewed as poetic extension beyond a principal structure, panorama, or a pose.
Limbs and shadows become the primary focus to engage the beauty of simplicity.
The exhibition aims to engage audience dialogue and emotional contemplation.
In addition to his Toowoomba Art Society membership, Peter has attended many McGregor School workshops at the University of Southern Queensland and is a regular art exhibitor.
The exhibition will be opened at 11am on Sunday, April 7. Guest speakers include noted artists Bill Morton and Charlie Boyle. Everyone is welcome to attend the free event, with no bookings required.
