Peter Walker reappointed to ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Museum of Australia Council

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Museum of Australia in Canberra has welcomed the reappointment of Peter Walker to the Museum’s Council.

Mr Walker has been a member of the Council since July 2018. His reappointment is for another two years and nine months, commencing in November 2024.

He is an art dealer with more than 20 years’ experience in the museum and gallery sector and owner and Director of Peter Walker Fine Art.

Mr Walker chairs the Council’s Collections Committee and is a member of its Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.

In announcing the reappointment, Minister for the Arts the Honourable Tony Burke MP said Mr Walker’s passion for the arts made him an ideal fit for the council.

‘Peter has decades of experience within the arts, particularly in the museum and gallery sector,’ Minister Burke said.

‘His extensive knowledge and sharp eye for detail has strengthened the board and will continue to lend valuable insights for future decisions.’

³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Museum Director Ms Katherine McMahon said Mr Walker was an invaluable member of Council.

‘Peter is highly respected in the Australian arts sector and over many years has made a vital contribution to our nation’s museums and galleries,’ Ms McMahon said.

‘The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Museum is dedicated to safeguarding and telling our nation’s diverse and important stories, as well as researching, collecting and preserving our country’s historical material. Our collections are vital to this mission.

‘The Museum is strengthened by Peter’s passion, expertise and insights, especially when it comes to how we can be best safeguard and share our collections. We look forward to continuing to work with him.’
