Phillip Island Set To Cheers New Brewery And Distillery

VIC Premier

Phillip Island will gain a new microbrewery and distillery with a 120-seat bar and restaurant thanks to a $1.2 million investment from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula today visited the site of the Rhyll Brewery and Distillery, to be funded from the Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund.

The development, located on the Rhyll foreshore, will have waterfront views and a brewery theatre so visitors can watch and learn about the beer making process.

The project will create around 55 jobs during construction and up to 20 full time jobs after works are complete in 2023.

A wide range of freshly brewed seasonal craft beer and spirits will be served, while the restaurant’s menu will showcase the very best produce the Phillip Island region has to offer.

The facility will also be able to host a range of events including masterclasses with guest brewers and distillers.

The investment is expected to provide lasting benefits to the foreshore and wider Phillip Island region, including increased visitors for nearby businesses and more local jobs.

Rhyll is a historically significant fishing village and the Rhyll Brewery and Distillery has been designed to reflect this history.

The Regional Tourism Investment Fund is helping entice more visitors to Victoria’s regions, driving private investment and accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector.

As stated by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula

“Phillip Island is one of Victoria’s favourite tourist destinations and that’s why we’re supporting projects that encourage more visitors to the region.”

“Visitors to the Rhyll Brewery and Distillery will be able to relax and have a drink while soaking up the waterfront views – another reason to stay even longer on Phillip Island.”

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas

“This investment will add to Phillip Island’s reputation as a leading food and drink destination. It will act as a drawcard for the region – creating more local jobs and boosting local spending.”

As stated by Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale

“This is such welcome news for Phillip Island to expand its offerings and experiences and I’m thrilled that this fund has enabled this project to get off the ground – great investment, great for our local economy and great for our locals and visitors alike.”
