Photographer charged over historical sexual assaults at Waterloo, NSW

A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged historical sexual assault of two women in Inner Sydney.

In May 2020, detectives attached to Surry Hills Police Area Command established Strike Force Nannawilli to investigate reports a woman was sexually assaulted by a man who was known to her.

Police will allege, the then aged 35-year-old woman was working as a model when she was sexually assaulted by a photographer at a Surry Hills warehouse in 2005.

Strike force investigators also investigated reports that a second woman, aged 33, was sexually assaulted during a photo shoot at a Waterloo home in 2011.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators executed a search warrant at home in Redfern, about 8am today (Friday 25 September 2020) and arrested a 48-year-old man.

During the search, police seized a number of hard drives, computers, camera equipment and phones. The items will be forensically examined.

The man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated sex assault – deprive liberty.

He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court later today.

Investigations are continuing.
