If you took a photo of the 2019 Black Summer bushfires or one that captured nature or the community’s recovery since then you could be part of an exhibition in November.
Kempsey Shire Council are calling for the community to send in their photos of the bushfires and our recovery for Black Summer and Beyond, an exhibition of images from the Macleay that tell the story of the fires and our recovery.
The best photos will be mounted and put on display in a traveling exhibition that will tour across the shire in order to give everyone in the shire the opportunity to attend and commemorate the one-year anniversary of the 2019 fires.
Council’s Recovery Coordinator, Jo McGoldrick, said organisers were keen to see photos of both the worst and best aspects of the story of the last twelve months.
“The extreme journey that we have been on since November, both as a community and as individuals, needs and deserves to be shared and recorded,” said Mrs McGoldrick.
“A crucial part of recovery is being able to share our stories. We are keen for any and all photos. Any that speak to you of the last year of disaster and recovery.
“So many people grabbed shots with their phones of the fire or the smoke or the RFS. And I know I’ve stopped to grab a shot of the green shoots coming through the ashes since then, as well as at the many community events that have occurred in this strange year of 2020.”
Entries Close 28 October 2020 and the exhibition will include prizes for Best Photo and People’s Choice.
