Pink packs out stadium, brings economic boon to Townsville

Confetti has settled and concertgoers now have memories to last a lifetime following the phenomenal success of Pink’s epic Summer Carnival tour.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium was packed with a record-breaking 65,000 strong crowd across two nights to witness the global pop icon’s high-energy performance, smashing attendance expectations.

The enormous shows not only filled out the stadium, but also brought a welcome boon to the Townsville economy, resulting in a $50 million boost in businesses like local hotels, restaurants, bars and retail outlets, showcasing the power of major events to drive economic prosperity.

Townsville City Council’s Community, Environment and Lifestyle Director Van Ta-Placidi said the atmosphere in Townsville over the past weekend was palpable.

“We are grateful to Pink for choosing our city as a stop on her tour, and to the 80,000 people who travelled near and far to be a part of this unforgettable experience,” she said.

“A big thank you also go out to all Council team members for your involvement in getting our city ready for Pink, to ensure every detail was perfect.

“Our city was put onto the world stage and our team put Townsville in the best possible light from making sure the city looked wonderful through to working with local businesses to make sure they were ready for Pink.

“From the Pink doorways scattered throughout the city to the vibrant Townsville Beats music trail leading to the stadium, every effort was made to ensure a memorable experience for both residents and visitors.

“Council took a proactive step in getting the city prepared for Pink and it was great to see the excitement build in the city as we activated spaces around the region.

“Everything from lighting assets around the city like Castle Hill and our bridges, to the amenity of our premier waterfront precinct at The Strand, to local businesses decking their shopfronts out in pink helped bring the community together to celebrate.

“There was a tremendous amount of city pride and sense of belonging.

“Businesses, residents and Council all came together to showcase our city at its best. We are confident that this event will further position Townsville as a premier destination for future major events.

“It’s through events like this that we are able to continue to see Townsville grow.”
