Planning Minister hits pause on Cape Paterson

The Victorian Minister of Planning recently informed Bass Coast Shire Council that an application to commence the process to facilitate residential development in Cape Paterson North will be deferred.

Council has requested authorisation from the Minister for Planning to commence the planning scheme amendment process to facilitate a residential development of approximately 53 hectares of land within the settlement boundary of Cape Patterson.

A response from the Minister was recently received. It explained that the decision would be deferred ‘until the Bass Coast Distinctive Area and Landscape project is significantly advanced.’

The Distinctive Area and Landscape project involves strategic planning work which will inform if changes should be made to the settlement boundary of Cape Paterson.

Declaring Bass Coast a Distinctive Area and Landscape was a 2018 pre-election commitment. Its purpose is to recognise and protect the importance of distinctive areas and landscapes.

Bass Coast Shire Council are currently working with the Department of Environment Water Land and Planning to progress the Distinctive Area and Landscape project.
