Kiama Council is taking further steps to encourage the revitalisation of Kiama’s town centre while protecting the heritage of the precinct.
Council has lodged two separate proposals with the NSW Government planning portal aimed at achieving these objectives:
- Kiama Town Centre Planning Proposal
- Kiama Heritage Review Planning Proposal
The Kiama Town Centre Planning Proposal seeks to amend the Kiama Local Environment Plan to:
- Increase the maximum permissible building height at key locations on Terralong and Akuna Street
- Increase maximum floor space ratios at specific sites
- Establish areas required to have an active street frontage
The Kiama Heritage Review Planning Proposal seeks to amend the Kiama Local Environment Plan to:
- Establish a Smiths Farm Heritage Conservation Area between Shoalhaven Street and Collins/Belvedere Streets from Akuna Street through to Seaview Street
- Establish a Kiama Town Centre Heritage Conservation Area taking in sections of Manning Street, Terralong Street and Collins Street
- Add a range of properties as heritage items, including the Blowhole Tennis Courts and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church
Council has conducted extensive community consultation to develop these proposals, with the drafts proposals placed on public exhibition earlier this year.
The NSW Government has now reviewed the finalised proposals, allowing them to now be placed on the planning portal:
Submissions can be made via the portal until Friday 6 October.
