Work is well underway to deliver a functional design for the development and construction of the Skyline Road Tourism Precinct catalyst project.
Murrindindi and Mansfield Shire Councils recently received $500,000 in funding from the Victorian Government’s Investment Fast Track Fund to complete the necessary planning work for the project and prepare a functional design, which will aid future applications for grant funding to construct the project.
Lake Eildon is a popular destination for tourists and locals. However, despite its appeal, it has suffered from a lack of investment over the past two decades, due to many different and complex challenges.
The Skyline Touring Route is a priority project in the Activating Lake Eildon Masterplan with both councils strongly advocating for the funds required to turn the area into a premier tourism destination and realising a continuous touring route around the lake.
The purpose of the Masterplan is to establish a shared vision for Lake Eildon and identify priority tourism and recreation projects that will boost the economy and provide many benefits to the surrounding townships and communities.
Key features of the project include the upgrade and sealing of 18 km of gravel roads connecting Eildon and Bonnie Doon including Skyline Road, Maintongoon Road and Sonnberg Drive. Planning will also include the development of architectural lookouts at key vantage points, rezoning of land to accommodate a commercial tourism development with stunning views and the development of a boutique distillery with small scale boutique accommodation.
