Victorian Youth Week runs from Monday April 8 to Friday April 12 and local celebrations will kick off this Saturday April 6 with the Rock & Raw gig hosted by the Yo Events team, the launch of the latest Ambedo magazine and the Youth in the Spotlight photographic exhibition.
The Rock & Raw gig will be held in a hidden laneway between Headspace Bendigo and Jools for Jim at 78 Pall Mall. The gig will feature live music from Macedon’s heavy metal team Lazerlips, Melbourne brass-folk quintet The Bean Project, Bendigo indie rock band The Trophy Wives, Sydney acoustic soloist Sammy Irish and more! Entry is $10 and doors open at 3pm with bands playing until 7pm.
The team behind local youth quarterly Ambedo Magazine, will launch the ninth issue with free badges and copies of the magazine available.
Ambedo Magazine Editor Ryan Peterson said he encouraged people to come along and get their hands on the first issue for 2019.
“We’ve got some really interesting articles and fantastic artwork from young people that we’re excited to share with everybody,” Ryan said.
Rock & Raw will also feature a first look at the Youth in the Spotlight photographic project, showcasing the contributions that our local young people make to the community. Youth in the Spotlight will also be exhibited in Hargreaves Mall and the Bendigo Goldfields Library during Youth Week.
City of Greater Bendigo Deputy Youth Mayor Annika Ritchie said it is important to celebrate the achievements and talents of young people in the community, especially during Youth Week.
“Young people are doing so much great work in and around our City and this event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything we have to offer,” Annika said.
Yo Events is funded by the Victorian State Government’s FReeZA program and is a fully supervised, alcohol-, smoke- and drug-free event.
