An insight into Labor’s new ministers, the Hon. Brendan O’Connor MP (Minister Skills and Training) and the Hon. Tony Burke MP (Leader of the House, as well as the Employment, Workplace Relations, Arts Minister).
On 31st May, Anthony Albanese proudly revealed his new look front bench, exclaiming “This is an exciting team. It’s a team which is overflowing, I think, with talent; with people who are absolutely committed to making a difference as ministers.”
Amongst several cabinet and portfolio changes, Deputy leader Richard Marles was announced as Australia’s new Minister for Defence. Marles was strongly linked to this position, having previously held the position of Shadow Defence Minister (2016 – 2021). With Marles’ departure from the Employment, Skills and Small Business portfolio (2021 – 2022), Brendan O’Connor was announced as Skills and Training Minister. O’Connor is returning to the portfolio after previously serving as Skills and Training Minister when Labor was last in government.
