Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited Australia’s main operating base in the Middle East on November 3.
Mr Morrison spoke with ADF members about their experiences with the recent Afghanistan evacuation operations over a barbecue breakfast.
Commander of Joint Task Force 633 Air Commodore David Paddison said it was a privilege to showcase the hard work and achievements of the task force and Air Task Group 630.
“We are proud to have worked alongside the broader Defence organisation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Affairs and Australian Border Force, to safely evacuate over 4100 Australian visa holders and approved foreign nationals out of Afghanistan,” Air Commodore Paddison said.
During the Prime Minister’s tour of the base, he was shown a display of imagery and Afghan children’s drawings collected during the humanitarian evacuation operations.
“The Prime Minister commented on the powerful and emotive nature of the Afghan children’s drawings and the genuine compassion displayed on ADF members’ faces, despite the challenging environment,” Air Commodore Paddison said.
“I know all of our personnel deployed on Operation Accordion appreciated the visit.”
