Poisonous mushrooming include Death Cap mushrooms (Amanita Phalloides) and Yellow staining mushrooms (Agaricus xanthodermus) are currently growing around Victoria.
- Extreme caution is advised when picking and consuming wild mushrooms.
- If in doubt – don’t consume!
- Consuming one Death Cap mushroom is sufficient to kill an adult.
- There is no home test available to
distinguish safe and edible mushrooms from poisonous mushrooms. - Cooking, peeling or drying these mushrooms does not remove or inactivate the poison.
- Mushrooms purchased from a supermarket, green grocer or other reputable source are safe to eat.
