Police arrest driver at Salisbury North

A driver was arrested after trying to evade police at Direk last night.

About 11.30pm on Saturday 30 September, police were patrolling the Direk area and detected a speeding vehicle on West Avenue.

PolAir was called in to track the silver Holden sedan as it continued to travel at speed into Salisbury North. It will be alleged the driver was driving dangerously, overtaking other vehicles and driving on the wrong side of the road without lights.

The driver abandoned the car in Naperian Road, Salisbury North and ran off. After a foot chase he was apprehended in Tangent Avenue.

Police also located a backpack he had allegedly thrown away which contained ammunition and a quantity of steroids.

Police checks revealed the driver had an expired licence. He also tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis. The sample was sent for forensic testing.

The 29-year-old Parafield Gardens man was arrested and charged with driving unlicensed, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, resist police, possess ammunition and trafficking in a controlled drug.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 13 November.
