Police Arrest Man After Foot Chase In Clayton South

Police have arrested a man who ran from a stolen car in Clayton South this morning.

Sommerville Highway Patrol members first spotted the vehicle in Karingal Drive in Frankston about 1.15am.

The Holden Commodore, bearing South Australian registration plates, sped off from police when they performed a U-turn to intercept the vehicle.

The vehicle was then spotted in the area by several units before the Air Wing was brought in to assist.

Arial scans by the Air Wing picked up the vehicle as it entered Peninsula Link at the intersection of Frankston Cranbourne Road.

The driver got off the freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens and continued travelling through Keysborough, Springvale and into Mulgrave where the car was detected at times travelling up to 200km/h.

It is believed a passenger got out of the vehicle in Mulgrave before the Holden was dumped in an industrial estate nearby.

The driver then jumped into another vehicle, a stolen Land Rover Evoke.

Police successfully deployed stop sticks as the driver left the industrial estate however the driver of the car continued on eventually shredding a tyre that came off the vehicle.

The driver finally dumped the car after he crashed into a fence at Westall railway station.

He tried to run from the scene but was caught by officers from Dandenong following a short foot chase.

The 19-year-old man was arrested and has been interviewed by police.

He will be charged in relation to the incident with expected charges including reckless conduct endangering life and serious injury, drive in speed dangerous, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, fail to stop on police direction, unlicensed driving, theft of two motor vehicles and drug driving.

Police will make an application to remand the driver in custody.
