A man has been arrested for arson following an incident at a Murray Bridge home early this morning.
Just after 1am on Friday 10 April police were called to a domestic disturbance at a home on Owl Drive.
When patrols arrived, they attempted to speak to a man involved in the incident however he became aggressive and barricaded himself in a room of the house. An officer injured his hand in a door as the man did this.
Five people, including two children, inside the home at the time, were safely removed while police negotiated with the man. They were not injured.
During the incident, the man threw an air conditioning unit at a patrol officer but thankfully, he was not injured.
The man also poured petrol and set fire to the front of the home. MFS attended and extinguished the fire which caused damage to the front of the property.
Police STAR Group officers and negotiators were called to the scene to assist local police.
As one of a range of tactical options available, STAR Group officers discharged three less than lethal rounds at the suspect who was armed, had threatened harm to police and had set fire to the property. He sustained minor injuries.
After several hours of negotiation, the man was taken into police custody without further incidents.
A 33-year-old man from Murray Bridge was charged with arson and two counts of assaulting a prescribed emergency worker. He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday 14 April.
