Police have arrested a man driving a stolen car at gun point, after a pursuit and collision at Sylvania this evening.
Shortly after 6pm (Friday 22 February 2019) officers from Sutherland Police Area Command located a man driving a vehicle who had earlier been reported to them as possibly being armed with a machete and with access to a firearm.
Police followed the man in the confirmed stolen vehicle, and then pursued it when the vehicle failed to stop near the Southgate Shopping Centre.
A number of pursuits were commenced and terminated due to the manner in which the stolen Holden Trax was being driven.
Shortly after officers travelling south on the Princes Highway observed the Holden being driven south in the north bound lanes.
Police followed the vehicle and the Holden was involved in a collision with the police vehicle.
The vehicles were pushed into the south bound lanes of the highway by the impact of the collision.
The driver of the Holden was arrested at the scene and conveyed to Sutherland Hospital for assessment.
The male and female police officers were also treated for minor injuries.
No one else was injured during the incident.
Road closures are in place as police inquiries into the incident continue. Officers have urged anyone with dash cam footage or images of the incident to contact Sutherland Police.
