Police arrest man after pursuit through several suburbs, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a lengthy pursuit through numerous suburbs in a stolen car.

Just after 9.30pm on Saturday 12 December, a Northern Districts patrol spotted a man driving a stolen silver Lexus on Bolivar Road at Burton. The patrol attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver allegedly refused and it was followed to Port Wakefield Road, where PolAir who was in the area, took over from the patrol and commenced followed the vehicle’s movements.

The stolen Lexus was followed the north along the Northern expressway then back south along Port Wakefield Road at about 10pm to the Port Expressway to Main South Road and then Regency Road at Regency Park.

At 10.20pm the stolen car had reached the Parade at Norwood, eventually to Cross Road at Unley and then to Adelaide’s western suburbs.

PolAir continued to follow the stolen car onto Holbrooks Road at Underdale, where the stolen car allegedly drove towards a patrol officer deploying road spikes narrowly missing him.

Just before 11pm a police patrol successfully used road spikes at Hanson Road and the Port River Expressway at Wingfield, puncturing several tyres .

Shortly after, the suspect pulled the Lexus into a service station at Salisbury Highway at Mawson Lakes, dumped the car and ran into the service station quickly stole a drink, then jumped in to the back of a member of the public’s car containing two men and told them to drive off, but police patrols swooped and the wanted man was arrested.

The 31-year-old man no fixed address was arrested and charged with a string of offences, including illegal use, engage in a police pursuit, acts to endanger life and breaching his bail conditions.

The arrested man has been refused police bail and will appear in court on Monday.

There were no injuries and no damage to other vehicles in the incident.
