Police arrest man for domestic violence offences, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a domestic violence incident at Woodville South this morning.

Just after 6am on Friday 13 December, emergency services were called to a Woodville South home after neighbours reported a domestic violence incident.

Police will allege the suspect discharged a firearm inside the house. A woman and child were inside the house and fortunately were not physically injured as a result of the incident.

Western District patrols were quickly on scene and located the suspect walking on Glen Eira Street. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.

The 28-year-old man from Christie Downs is expected to be charged with serious domestic violence offences.

The public are reminded that domestic abuse doesn’t just include physical violence, but also encompasses threatening behaviour, damage to property, emotional or psychological harm and denying a person financial, social or personal independence.

Police Interim Intervention Orders can be issued to provide immediate protection and safety for victims. These are immediately enforceable, cover firearms, and may require the accused person to immediately vacate the home address or return items of personal property belonging to the protected person.

If you know of someone experiencing domestic abuse or violence, speak up.
