Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after he was located in an allegedly stolen truck this afternoon in Burnside.
It is alleged the prime mover was stolen from a property on Demolition Court in Laverton North just before 6am this morning.
The owner contacted police and the vehicle was tracked to a service station in Rockbank and followed through multiple suburbs including Taylors Hill, Kings Park and Truganina.
The driver dumped the vehicle on Fairweather Drive in Burnside and fled on foot.
The man was arrested a short time later without incident and a loaded firearm alleged to have been discarded by the man was located nearby.
The 37-year-old Taylors Lakes man has been charged with multiple offences including burglary, drug possession, theft of motor vehicle and possess firearm contrary to a firearm prohibition order
He has been remanded to appear in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 6 November.
