Major Crash Officers have arrested a man following the investigation into a serious crash at Mile End South on Saturday.
About 10.45pm on Saturday 26 October, police and emergency services were called to London Road after an orange Plymouth Barracuda hit a Stobie pole and caught alight.
The driver and sole occupant, a 51-year-old Nailsworth man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Major Crash investigators attended the scene and examined the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Last night, police arrested a 50-year-old man from Somerton Park, the alleged driver of a second vehicle.
Police will allege the men were engaged in a street race on London Road when the Plymouth collided with a tree, seriously injuring the driver.
The arrested man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to report to police within 90 minutes of a serious injury crash, engage in a street race and careless driving. He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Police have seized both vehicles involved, and are calling for anyone who may have seen a 1969 orange Plymouth Barracuda or a 1957 red Chevrolet Belair driving on Saturday night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
