Police arrest man over Parkside robbery, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a terrifying incident yesterday afternoon at Parkside where a woman was pulled from her car by a man wielding a hammer.

Just after 4.30pm on Monday 10 August, a woman was sitting in her Mazda sedan in Olive Street, when a man approached her driver’s side window yelled at her “Get out of the car”! He then produced a hammer and hit the driver’s side window. The window cracked but he then hit the window a second time shattering the window and covering the woman with glass.

The woman who has never seen this man before and it appears quite a random incident, was then dragged out of the vehicle by the arm on to the road. She then managed to run away, toward Fullarton Road, while the man attempted to start her car.

The woman’s 2014 Mazda sedan has a press start ignition and the woman had the car key in her pocket, so when she ran away the suspect couldn’t start the car.

The male then grabbed the woman’s backpack from the car which contained her purse and other personal belongings and walked off.

Police patrols converged on the area after a witness phoned police, and they quickly located a male fitting the description of the suspect

On approaching him they noticed he had a cut had, as the patrol spoke went to speak with him, he ran off over back fences. he was chased on foot for a few minutes, before being apprehended nearby.

The 37-year-old man from Moonta was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, assault cause harm and resist arrest.

When searched, police allegedly located the victim’s wallet and mobile phone in his pockets.

The arrested man has been refused policed bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

The 35-year-old woman that was robbed received minor cuts and abrasions from the incident which required medical treatment.
