Police have arrested several men as part of Operation Hurricane 2, including two men in connection with a recent crime series at Blackwood.
Operation Hurricane 2 was launched to tackle recent crime clusters across the State, including break-ins, robberies, motor vehicle crime, thefts and stolen goods.
Between 19 March and 27 March, more than a dozen business premises were broken into in the Blackwood area. The suspects were captured on CCTV footage and following investigations police last night arrested two men.
A 32-year-old Hackham man was charged with three counts of aggravated serious criminal trespass, 2 counts of theft, one count of attempt non- residential serious Criminal Trespass and 1 count of attempt theft.
A 40-year-old Glengowrie man was charged with 1 count of Aggravated Serious Criminal Trespass and 3 counts of theft.
The men were bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 22 May and 24 June.
During the arrest of the two men, officers came across another man, 44-year-old from Ashford, who was arrested for breach of bail and unlawful possession of $7850 in cash.
A 32-year-old Findon man was charged over a crime series involving business break-ins, thefts and illegal use across the northern and western suburbs. He was charged with three counts of serious criminal trespass, three counts of theft, two counts of illegal use, making off without payment of petrol and breach of bail. He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 13 May.
A 38-year-old Daw Park man was arrested and charged with 25 counts of making off without payment and one count of unlawful possession of number plates. It will be alleged that police have linked the man to 25 petrol thefts from service station across the State. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 8 October.
A 43-year-old Salisbury North man was arrested and charged with 13 counts of making off without payment after he was allegedly captured on CCTV at the service stations across the northern, western and southern suburbs. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 2 October.
Operation Hurricane 2 is a police response to an increase in property crime in South Australia. While “crimes against the person” are down, there has been a recent spike in break-ins, property damage, thefts, and offences relating to cars, including car thefts, property stolen from cars, number plate thefts and petrol drive-offs.
Through intelligence and analysis, SAPOL have identified clusters of crime across the state and will be proactively targeting these areas during Operation Hurricane 2.
Police will be deploying extra resources as required to these crime clusters, including local police, State Tactical Response Group, traffic officers, CIB detectives, police dogs and the police helicopter (PolAir).
The public are encouraged to assist police by reporting any suspicious behaviour, particularly around vulnerable business premised, immediately on the police assistance line 131 444.
