Police arrest six for drug offences

A phone call from a member of the public led to the arrest of six men for drug offences on Friday afternoon.

About 3.30pm on Friday 20 March Western District patrols were called to a house in Blair Athol after reports of a male asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in a driveway.

The attending police detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located about 70 kilograms of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The 30-year-old man from Northfield was arrested for possess a large quantity of a controlled plant and possess a controlled drug. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 23 March.

Further investigations led Western District detectives to search a home in Webb Street at Port Adelaide. A group of men were located dismantling a significant cannabis hydroponic set up.

All five men, Vietnamese nationals, were arrested for cultivating a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, possessing prescribed equipment, and participating in a criminal organisation. All men were refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates court on Monday 23 March.
