Police arrest two after aggravated carjacking at Maryvale

Latrobe Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two hitchhikers following an aggravated carjacking which occurred in Maryvale last night.

The incident occurred when the victim, a 45-year-old Sale man, who was driving from Sale to Melbourne, picked up the two hitchhikers near a fast-food outlet in Traralgon just before 6pm.

While travelling on Tanjil East Road, one of the offenders allegedly produced a firearm and threatened the victim telling him to pull over and get into the back seat.

The victim was eventually dropped off near a pine plantation, but with no phone which was allegedly stolen by the offenders, was unable to notify police for several hours.

The victim’s car, a white Holden Commodore, was later found dumped in Moe and the two offenders, a 16-year-old Morwell boy and a 19-year-old Maffra man were arrested shortly after.

The 19-year-old Maffra man has been charged with aggravated carjacking and is expected to appear at the Latrobe Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The 16-year-old Morwell boy has also been charged with aggravated carjacking and is expected to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
