Police arrest two for drug trafficking overnight, South Australia

A man and woman have been arrested for drug trafficking and traffic offences after they were stopped last night at Burton.

Just before 11.30pm on Friday 13 November, a police patrol stopped a man and woman travelling in silver Subaru on Heaslip Road at Burton.

Police checks on the female driver revealed the woman was disqualified from driving.

A search of the car then uncovered drug paraphernalia and about 40 grams of methamphetamine.

But while police were speaking to the woman, the male passenger from the car has jumped in the driver’s seat of the Subaru and driven away from the police patrol.

The Subaru wasn’t pursued by the patrol, but other police patrols in the area were notified. About 15 minutes later at around 11.45pm a patrol spotted the wanted Subaru speeding on Sturton Road at Edinburgh.

The Police helicopter PolAir was in the area and and followed the vehicle along Stebonheath Road then West Avenue and Peachey Road at Davoren Park. The Subaru stopped on Chapman where the driver appeared to stash something in some bushes.

Police patrols converged on the area, locating the male driver and also some scales and a quantity of methamphetamine in the bushes.

A 30-year-old woman from Davoren Park has been arrested and charged with driving while disqualified and trafficking a controlled substance, while a 39-year-old man from Davoren Park who jumped in the Subaru and took off from police was arrested and charged driving at a speed dangerous to the public, hindering police and trafficking a controlled substance.

They have both been bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later court.
