Police have arrested two men after an international student was robbed and assaulted in the Southern Highlands earlier this week.
About 8pm Monday (24 June 2019), an 18-year-old male international student disembarked a train at Moss Vale and walked onto Argyle Street.
The man was allegedly grabbed around the neck from behind and forced to the ground. The man had a bag he was carrying and a necklace he was wearing taken.
The two male offenders then ran towards Moss Vale Railway Station.
The man chased the two men and caught up with them on the overhead bridge at the station where he demanded his property back. It is alleged that the student was punched in the eye, before having a second necklace removed from his neck which resulted in scratches to his chest.
The matter was reported to Southern Highlands Police and an investigation commenced.
About 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 June 2019), officers sighted one of the alleged offenders, an 18-year-old male, in Stanley Street Moss Vale. He was arrested and conveyed to Southern Highlands Police Station.
About 6pm (Wednesday 26 June 2019), officers executed a search warrant at a premise in Lytton Road, Moss Vale, and arrested a second 18-year-old male who was also taken to Southern Highlands Police Station. Police also seized items linked to the incident.
The 18-year-old offenders, both from Moss Vale, were each charged with one count of robbery in company.
Both were released on strict conditional bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court. One will appear on Tuesday 16 July and the other will appear on Tuesday 6 August 2019.
