Police arrest youth after Springvale stabbing

Police have today arrested a 17-year-old boy in relation to an alleged stabbing on Buckingham Street, Springvale earlier this month.

Police from the Southern Metro Regional Crime Team and Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a residential address in north-west Melbourne this morning, leading to the arrest of the 17-year-old and seizure of two machetes, a mobile phone and clothing.

Quotes attributed to Detective Senior Sergeant David Cox:

“Today, we have sent a clear message to anyone carrying a knife- you are going to get caught and the potential consequences are severe.

“There are absolutely no winners associated with carrying and using knives – it only leads to injury, death or a significant period in a prison cell.

“It’s only a matter of time until we knock on the door of the other people involved in this incident – we have a number of active lines of enquiry and today’s arrest should serve as a warning that the net is closing on you.

“Police will continue to work alongside local community and youth organisations to keep young people away from arming themselves with a knife and ultimately making a terrible life decision.”
