Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was charged with murder following the discovery of a body at Venus Bay on the Eyre Peninsula yesterday.
Just after 11am on Monday 30 May, police were called to Sandham Street where the body of a 64-year-old man from Mid North Coast Region of NSW, was found inside a home.
Detectives from Eyre and Western CIB, Major Crime and Major Crime attended the scene along with a Forensic Pathologist.
The deceased man has been identified as 64-year-old Peter Hillier who was reported missing in NSW on May 25, 2022.
Mr Hilliers’ last known location interstate was Lake Haven, NSW.
Mr Hillier is known to have purchased a motor home in Adelaide approximately one month ago, with the intention of travelling around Australia with an acquaintance.
They had been in Venus Bay, South Australia for approximately one month and had during that time stayed in several holiday rental accommodation properties.
The acquaintance reported that they went fishing at Streaky Bay and Port Lincoln on Sunday 29 May and that they had been involved in a motor vehicle incident on the Flinders Highway later that day.
Police are appealing for anyone who has seen Mr Hillier or the motor home after 7am on Sunday 29 May, and more generally his whereabouts since leaving NSW, to contact police.
The details of Mr Hillier’s movements over the course of that day will form the basis of an investigation.
At around 8pm on Monday 30 May, police arrested a 43-year-old from the NSW Central Coast, who is known to the deceased and charged him with murder. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Port Lincoln Magistrates Court later today.
Police are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage from the Flinders Highway or surrounding roads on Sunday 29 May to contact police.
