Members of the Central North Division detected 50 speeding drivers throughout November during targeted road safety patrols.
Police from Westbury, Longford, Deloraine and Campbell Town have been targeting both highways and rural roads, with a particular focus on speeding.
The results included –
- Driver detected travelling 84km/h in a 40km/h roadworks zone on the Midland Highway on 14 November. The driver was disqualified for a period of three months and fined $858.
- Driver detected travelling 112km/h in an 80km/h zone at Epping Forest on 17 November. The driver was fined $606.
- Driver detected travelling 113km/ in an 80km/h zone on Pateena Road at Longford on 22 November. The driver was fined $606.
- P-plater detected travelling at 132km/h on the Bass Highway on 24 November – 32km/h above the maximum speed limit of 100km/h for a P-plater. They were fined $606.
Inspector Grant Twining said police would continue to actively target both urban and rural roads across Tasmania.
“Motorists driving on rural roads in particular should allow extra time for their journeys, and always drive to the conditions – that includes adjusting your speed on rural roads, where there is often a reduced speed limit,” he said.
“We’re urging all road users to prioritise safety, adhere to the road rules, and remain vigilant on our roads.”
