Police charge driver after fatal crash in Cowes

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged an 18-year-old man following a fatal crash in Cowes last night.

It’s alleged a vehicle lost control before crashing into a tree at the intersection of Millennium Way and Justice Road just after 11.30pm on Saturday, 30 September.

Five males were in the car at the time of the crash.

One of the passengers, a 19-year-old man from Cowes, died at the scene.

The driver, an 18-year-old St Kilda East man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

He has been bailed to appear in Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court 4 October.
