Police charge man after citizen’s arrest in Granville

A citizen’s arrest after the alleged armed robbery of a Granville grocery store has seen a man charged.

About 7pm yesterday (Monday 6 May 2019), police were called to a pharmacy on South Street, after reports of an armed robbery.

Police will allege a man entered a grocery store on Good Street, and threatened the attendant with a vape-pen, which he posed as a firearm.

He took cash from the register and ran from the store, with a witness from a nearby store pursuing him on foot.

The man entered a pharmacy on South Street, threatening attendants and demanding money.

Several members of the public confronted the man and forced him out of the store.

He was restrained and police were contacted, before officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and arrested the 24-year-old man.

The Granville man was taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment, and later taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 7 May 2019).
