A man will face court today, charged over a fire at a petrol station in Chippendale this week.
About 2.20am on Tuesday (26 February 2019), emergency services were called to a petrol station on Regent Street, responding to reports a fire had been deliberately lit on the forecourt.
Police will allege a man crawled towards the petrol pump on his hands and knees and released a small amount of petrol from the pump, before setting it on fire with a lighter and crawling away.
The man crawled over to a second pump, releasing petrol and setting it on fire.
Both fires self-extinguished, causing minor damage.
Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command arrived to find a 31-year-old man suffering injuries to his knees and ankles.
He was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for assessment and treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ropes Crossing man was discharged into police custody yesterday (Wednesday 27 February 2019) and taken to Day Street Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of damage property by fire and refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 28 February 2019).
