Latrobe Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a man following an alleged aggravated burglary in Morwell on Thursday 30 January.
It is alleged police were called to the report of an aggravated burglary at a Maryvale Road residence about 9.20pm where a deceased man aged in his 90s was also located.
During a search of the area a man was located nearby and taken into custody.
A 42-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged and remanded with aggravated burglary.
He will appear at Latrobe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Investigators will await the results of a postmortem and the investigation remains ongoing.
