Police Charge Man After Pursuit – Campbelltown PAC

A man has been charged over a pursuit in Sydney’s south west.

About 12.20am today (Wednesday 27 November 2024), the occupant of a home on Victoria Road, Macquarie Fields, confronted a man who was allegedly trespassing on the property.

When the man left in a SUV, the home owner followed the vehicle in their own car, contacting Triple Zero.

A short time later, the SUV was sighted by PolAir; checks revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from Wellington on Saturday 16 November 2024

When officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command attempted to stop the vehicle along Georges River Road, Campbelltown, it failed to do so and a pursuit was initiated.

For safety reasons the ground pursuit was terminated but PolAir continued to monitor the SUV where it was tracked to a unit complex in Lodestone Place, Eagle Vale.

Officers proceeded to the complex where it will be alleged the SUV drove directly at an unmarked police vehicle causing significant damage to the front nearside.

The SUV proceeded to drive out of the complex where it crashed into the front yard of a home on Opal Place.

Following the crash, the driver allegedly ran from the location into nearby bushland where – with the assistance of PolAir and the Dog Squad – he was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

A search of the SUV allegedly located a number of stolen identification cards; inquiries also established that the 22-year-old man did not hold a current driver’s licence.

The Claymore man was charged with nine offences,

• Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly

• Drive while licence cancelled

• Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc

• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

• Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (four counts).

It will also be alleged the man was involved in a fail-to-stop crash occurring on Thursday 12 October 2024 at Dean Park where he was charged with take & drive conveyance without consent of owner and not give particulars to other driver.

Also on Friday 22 November 2024, the man – it will be alleged – was involved in a shoplifting incident at a hardware store on Blaxland Road, Campbelltown, where he was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and shoplifting.

In both incidents it will be alleged he was driving a stolen vehicle.

The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday 27 November 2024) where he was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Thursday 12 December 2024.
