A man has been charged after a police pursuit across Sydney yesterday.
About 1pm (Monday 4 September 2023), officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended a shop on Victoria Road, Drummoyne, following reports a man had stolen items from the store and left in a Subaru WRX, with no number plates attached.
A short time later, officers attached to the State Crime Command’s Raptor Highway Patrol sighted the vehicle on Lyons Road.
Police attempted to stop the Subaru however, it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle travelled through local streets before it was terminated in Five Dock due to the dangerous manner of driving.
A short time later, police again sighted the vehicle on Parramatta Road, Five Dock.
Attempts to stop the Subaru were unsuccessful and the vehicle was monitored by PolAir travelling to Homebush West and onto the M4 and M7.
When the vehicle slowed due to heavy traffic at Rooty Hill, police arrested the driver – a 31-year-old man.
He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with six offences including:
- shoplifting,
- police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously,
- drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
- drive conveyance taken without consent of owner,
- Use unregistrable vehicle not display authorised number plates, and
- drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was refused bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court today (Tuesday 5 September 2023).
