Police Charge Man After Stabbing In Berwick

Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after two men were injured following a stabbing in Berwick.

The 29-year-old man has been charged with intentionally cause injury (x2), affray, criminal damage and other relevant offences.

The charges follow an incident at a shopping centre in Lyall Road where it is alleged one man was stabbed and another injured about 12.45pm.

Police were initially called to the scene following reports a man appeared agitated and was behaving in what appeared to be an erratic manner.

It is alleged the man armed himself with a knife from a nearby store before the victim was allegedly stabbed. The 24-year-old Cranbourne North man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A second man was injured when he intervened to subdue the man before police arrived. The 77-year-old man from Berwick was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As part of the investigation detectives executed a warrant at a home in Berwick this evening where an imitation firearm and quantity of drugs were seized.

At this stage the incident is being treated as a random attack as the people involved do not appear to be known to one another.

The Berwick man has been held over to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 August.
