A man will face court today charged after a stabbing in North Wollongong yesterday.
About 4.20am (Sunday 23 February 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Virginia Street North Wollongong after a man was found suffering a stab wound to his abdomen.
Police were told the 24-year-old man attended the home before a physical altercation took place with a 22-year-old male resident, who was known to him.
As a result of the altercation, the 24-year-old man was allegedly stabbed.
Shortly after, a 27-year-old man arrived at the Virginia Street address where he and the 24-year-old man allegedly armed themselves with metal poles and smashed the windows of a car parked at the premises before leaving the scene.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended shortly after and spoke with the 27-year-old man walking along nearby Bourke Street.
The 27-year-old man alerted police to the injured 24-year-old man driving past, before he was stopped by police at Keira Street, Wollongong. Due to the nature of his injuries, NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and took the 24-year-old to Wollongong Hospital where he underwent surgery for stab wound.
Police attended the Virginia Street home and spoke with the 22-year-old man before he attempted to flee the scene. After a short foot pursuit, he was arrested by police and taken to Wollongong Hospital for monitoring due to his level of intoxication.
Later that morning, about 9am, police attended the home of the 27-year-old man in Thirroul where he was arrested for his alleged role in the damage to the vehicle.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with malicious damage. He is expected to face court at a later date.
Upon being released from hospital, the 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company (DV).
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 24 February 2020).
The 24-year-old man is expected to undergo further surgery today.
Detectives attached to Wollongong Police District will continue to investigate the matter.
