A man has been charged following a string of offences in south Sydney overnight.
Just before midday yesterday (Friday 19 January 2024), emergency services were called to a licensed venue on Phillip Street, Redfern, following reports of an assault.
Police were told a 56-year-old man was assaulted in the venue, before the other man fled the location.
Just before 11pm the same day, emergency services were called to the intersection of Walker Street and James Street, Redfern, where they found a 38-year-old taxi driver with injuries to his chest and hand.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Police were told a man opened the front passenger door of the taxi and leaned inside, allegedly stabbing the driver in the chest before running away.
Around 12.20am today (Saturday 20 January 2024), police were called to Morehead Street, Redfern, responding to reports a food delivery driver had been stabbed in the back.
The driver – a 25-year-old man – was treated and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command established crime scenes and commenced investigations.
Following inquiries and an appeal for information, a 25-year-old man was arrested on Walker Street, Redfern, just before 2pm today,
The man was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with:
– Five counts of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
– Two counts of custody of knife in public place
– Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
– Affray
– Possess prohibited drug
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 21 January 2024).
