A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife, breaking into a home, and assaulting a man before stealing his car, in Sydney’s south earlier this year
Police will allege the man allegedly threatened a woman with a knife before attempting to steal her Mazda 6, with her then one-year-old baby inside, on George Street, Mortdale, about 10.55am on Friday 4 September 2020.
The man allegedly fled the scene when the woman alerted people nearby. The woman and her baby weren’t injured.
A short time later, about 11am, the man allegedly broke into a house on nearby Rosemount Avenue, Mortdale, and chased the sole occupant, a 70-year-old woman, from the home to a next-door property.
He then allegedly threatened a 31-year-old man with a knife and assaulted him before stealing his BMW and driving away. The 31-year-old suffered minor injuries.
Officers from St George Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation and a search of the area, with assistance from the Dog Unit.
Police will allege the man went on to steal number plates from a car in Beverley Hills and attached them to the BMW.
The following day (Saturday 5 September 2020), the stolen vehicle was recovered on Fisher Street, Petersham, and seized for forensic analysis about 12:50am.
Following extensive inquiries and an appeal for public information, officers arrested a 35-year-old man at Wellington Police Station about 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 30 November 2020).
He was charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it-armed with weapon, robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and larceny.
He was remains in custody and is due to appear in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 2 December 2020.
