Police charge man over domestic assault and kidnapping in Padstow

A man will appear in court today after being charged with kidnapping and assault at Padstow last week.

About 11.45am on Friday 5 April 2019, a 49-year-old woman attended a home in Padstow where she planned to stay with a 58-year-old male friend.

Police have been told that the man became argumentative and aggressive and restrained the woman.

He allegedly threw the woman into the bath and repeatedly hit and poked her with a wooden stick.

The woman suffered bruising to her back, arms and legs.

About 7.30pm the man allegedly forced the woman into his car and drove her to a nearby ATM to withdraw money, however her card was declined.

The man drove home and then told the woman to leave, which she did.

The woman attended Liverpool Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and police were alerted.

At 8am on Wednesday 10 April 2019 officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended a home in Gibson Avenue at Padstow where they arrested a 58-year-old man.

Investigators established a crime scene which was examined by forensic specialists.

The man was conveyed to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage occasion actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 11 April 2019).
