A man will face court charged over the alleged physical abuse of a baby in the state’s Lake Illawarra region.
In September 2019, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation under Strike Force Apara, after a 12-week-old girl presented to hospital with serious head and arm injuries.
The baby has since been released from hospital and alternate care arrangements have been made.
Following extensive investigations, a 20-year-old man was arrested at a unit at Warrawong about 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 1 October 2019).
He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with 19 domestic violence-related offences including; reckless grievous bodily harm, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (x10), common assault (x3), intentionally choke person without consent (x2), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (x2), and destroy or damage property.
Police will allege in court the man physically abused the baby, who is known to him, last month.
Police will further allege the man physically abused a 17-year-old woman, also known to him.
The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 2 October 2019).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
