Police charge man over sexual assault in Wentworthville

A man will appear in court today charged after he allegedly threatened a woman with a knife before detaining and sexually assaulting her in Sydney’s west.

Just before 1am on Thursday 3 August 2020, the man allegedly forced the 34-year-old woman into a toilet attached to a unit block during a prearranged meeting on Station Street, Wentworthville.

The man had allegedly broken into the toilet earlier.

He allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and punched her before forcing her into his car and driving her to a unit on the same street, where he sexually assaulted her.

Police were notified later that day and officers from Cumberland Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a unit on Station Street, Wentworthville, where they arrested a 40-year-old man following a short struggle, about 8.30pm yesterday (Thursday 3 September 2020).

Officers executed a search warrant at the location, where they seized a car, electronic stun device and clothing, which will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm, take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage occasion actual bodily harm, aggravated break and enter with intent – armed, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 4 September 2020).
