A man will face court today charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery on the state’s south coast last year.
Shortly before 9am Thursday (16 January 2020) a 27-year-old man was arrested at a home on Marsh Street, Armidale and taken to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with a number of offences relating to armed robberies in the New England region.
Following further inquiries, the man was charged with his involvement in an armed robbery in Narooma late last year.
Police will allege in court the man attended a service station in Narooma about 6am Friday 25 October 2019, in the company of a second unknown man, and used a tree branch, length of timber and a rock to smash electronic equipment before demanding cash and cigarettes from the service station attendant.
The two men allegedly fled the scene on foot.
The 27-year-old man has since been charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Armidale Local Court on Monday 20 January 2020.
The second man involved in the incident remains outstanding.
As investigations continue, police are appealing for information about a second man who was allegedly involved in the incident at Narooma.
He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged 18 to 20, with a thin to medium build.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Inquiries are continuing.
