Police have charged a man over the alleged attempted murder of a woman following a domestic violence-related incident in Sydney’s west yesterday.
About 1.40pm on Friday (12 November 2021), emergency services were called to a home at Carramar, following reports of a domestic-related incident.
Police were told a man became physically aggressive toward a woman, pushing her head against a cupboard, before pouring an unknown flammable liquid over her body and clothing.
It will be alleged the man then attempted to light the woman on fire; however, was unsuccessful.
The woman called out to neighbours for assistance, before the man left the scene in a vehicle.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident, and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment and assessment.
A crime scene was established at the home, which was forensically examined by specialist police.
Following inquiries, officers arrested a 46-year-old man at Fairfield Police Station about 10pm yesterday.
He was charged with attempt murder, cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 13 November 2021).
