Police charge man with child abuse offences in Sydney

A man will appear in court today charged with 21 child abuse and drug offences following an investigation into the sexual assault of two teenagers in Sydney’s CBD.

In June 2022, detectives attached to Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the historical sexual assault of two teenagers.

The two teenagers – a boy and a girl, both aged 15 – were approached by a man, not known to them, at a fast-food restaurant on George Street, Broadway on Friday 21 April 2021.

Later the same day, the two teens attended the man’s residence in Ultimo, where they were allegedly sexually assaulted.

Police will further allege the teenage boy was further assaulted during another incident later that year.

Following an extensive investigation under Strike Force Gibbon, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Mitchell Street, Glebe, about 10am yesterday (Wednesday 23 August 2023).

During a search of the home, police located and seized a number of electronic devices and prohibited drugs.

The occupant, a 55-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged 21 offences, including;

* Nine counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with child,

* Three counts of aggravated sexual act – child between 10 years & 16 years,

* Four counts of incite sexual touching – child between 10 years & 16 years,

* Two counts of procure child over 14 years & under 16 years for sexual activity,

* commercial supply of prohibited drug (LSD), and

* two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today (Thursday 24 August 2023).
