A man has been charged with numerous firearms offences following a search warrant in July.
About 8am on Sunday 21 July 2024, police were called to the carpark of Dutton Lane, Cabramatta, following reports of man allegedly armed with an AK47 assault rifle.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.
During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage and observed a man carrying a black AK47 rifle and placing in the boot of a Mazda vehicle. The man left prior to police arrival.
The vehicle was located a short time later by police and stopped. A search of the vehicle was conducted with police locating a firearm part and a used rifle round.
A 68-year-old was arrested at the scene and taken to Fairfield Police Station.
A subsequent search warrant was conducted at a home on Arbutrus Street, Canley Heights. During the search police located a homemade AK47 assault rifle, homemade firearm, ammunition belt with live rounds, and two metal objects shaped as a firearm, and an improvised explosive device shaped as a hand grenade.
Following the search, the man was charged with:
– One count of Armed with intent to commit indictable offence
– Two counts of Possess unauthorised firearm
– One count of Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
– One count of Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
He was bail refused to appear before Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 18 September 2024.
